Villarrica Traverse Express

Cover roughly 75 kilometres of pristine Andean wilderness in six days as you circuit three majestic volcanoes — Villarrica, Quetrupillan, and Lanin. The Villarrica Traverse Express is a fast-paced, immersive trek through some of the most biodiverse and geologically dramatic terrain in southern Chile, where ancient Araucaria forests meet glacial lakes, hot springs steam from the earth, and volcanic landscapes stretch to the Argentine border.

Itinerary

Day 1 — Meeting in Pucon

Arrive in Pucon, meet your guides and fellow trekkers. Equipment check, route briefing, and preparation for the days ahead.

Day 2 — Puesco to Laguna Azul (25 km)

A big opening day takes you from the Puesco border crossing deep into the backcountry, threading through Araucaria and Lenga forests to the stunning turquoise waters of Laguna Azul. Camp at a pre-mounted site beside the lake.

Day 3 — Quetrupillan Summit + Paraiso Escondido (20 km)

Ascend Volcan Quetrupillan for sweeping views across the volcanic chain, then descend to the hidden camp at Paraiso Escondido — a sheltered meadow ringed by ancient forest.

Day 4 — Cordillera del Mocho-Chinay (16 km)

Traverse the high ridgeline of the Mocho-Chinay range, a wild and windswept landscape of volcanic rock, alpine meadows, and panoramic views that stretch from the Pacific lowlands to the Argentine steppe.

Day 5 — Pichillancahue ice field + Termas Geometricas (20 km)

Approach the Pichillancahue ice field on the flanks of Villarrica, then descend through native forest to the famous Termas Geometricas — a series of natural hot spring pools set in a dramatic red-walled canyon. Soak your muscles after days on the trail.

Day 6 — Valle del Fuego to Pucon (30 km optional)

The final push through the Valley of Fire, a landscape shaped by centuries of volcanic eruptions, returning to Pucon with a profound sense of accomplishment.

All campsites are pre-mounted for your safety and comfort, allowing you to focus entirely on the trail and the extraordinary landscapes around you.
